Focussing on our inheritance

Updated: Mar 10, 2022

Jesus Christ, our forever testator and the Son of God left us an inheritance which transforms our identity to children of God when we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour. The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth and the life. Since we are in Him and He has in us through His Holy Spirit, His divine power has given us everything pertaining to life and godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us to glory and virtue. (2 Peter 1:3).

Romans 8:14-17 NKJV

"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba Father."

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

and if children, then heirs-heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ..."

Viewing the above text, I would like to particularly focus on our identity as believers. The lows of life and the enemy's thoughts in our minds have a tendency to distract us from recognizing the big sacrifice that Jesus Christ paid for us on the cross.

While Jesus was on the cross; Matthew 27: 46 (NKJV) says; "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli Eli lama sabachthani?" that is, My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?"

Meditating on this Word gets me emotional especially as we draw closer to Easter. Jesus did not choose an easy death just because He is God. He humbled Himself to humanity. His love for me and you made Him endure an extremely painful death so that the will of our Heavenly Father would be accomplished as our Lord and Saviour.

When negative thoughts of doubt, fear and depression come to your mind, speak and meditate on the Word of God. Stay encouraged in the memory that our Lord Jesus bore all our pains, shame, grief and sorrows on the cross just so me and you could have a brand new life and renewed relationship with our Heavenly Father.

The will of our Heavenly Father concerning our lives is clear and established. We are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. The spirit of bondage to fear has been loosed and we are now joint heirs with Christ Jesus. Glory to God.

When life's seasons become challenging and unpredictable, open your Bible and read it. Fix your eyes on the things above where the Lord is because that is where our trustworthy help comes from as children of God.

"Finally, brethren (brothers and sisters), whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things." (Philippians 4:8).
