Power of grace
The lead Scripture for this post is; Romans 6:19 NIV
"I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness."
Grace is God's free gift to the world through His Son, Jesus Christ that is too great to express in words because it is by the grace of God that we are saved from death and have a renewed relationship with God the Father. In my previous post titled "Glimpse into salvation", I mentioned that we are not saved or guaranteed a special place in heaven based on our good or kind actions. In addition, Scripture also tells us that God has no favourites. It is only a life in faith through Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God that has the power to save us from death through a guarantee to everlasting eternal life.
Paul in Romans 5:20 tells us that where sin was present, grace increased and was more available. I believe this is an illustration that nobody can outperform God's love for his children. This means that there is no sin committed in this world by any person that God's mercy shall not forgive except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31).
However, just as the grace of God is readily available to us, this by no means implies that we should abuse God's grace by willingly engaging in sin under the guise of "freedom". We who are born of Jesus Christ are born out of God's love for us and l believe true love does not abuse or pervert freedom.
If anything, God's grace gives every believer the ability to stand above sin. Romans 6:14 says "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace."
I love this verse as it demonstrates the reality that despite being born of the spirit, there is a battle between the strength of God's spirit in us and the weakness of the flesh. Hence, this is why God gives us free access to His grace (by faith) through Jesus Christ, so we can overcome the power of sin in our lives. This is what I refer to as the power of grace.
Romans 8:14 AMP; "For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."
My prayer for this Sunday morning is may our eyes be opened to our right standing with God through Christ Jesus. Thank you Abba Father for Your grace that continues to empower us through the Holy Spirit to live a life in the spirit and overcome every weakness of the flesh. Thank you Lord for Your blood that cleanses every impurity in us. We thank you for Your Holy Spirit that guides us to a place where our faith in You is complete. Thank you Lord for giving us the ability to walk in our new lives as sons of God, In the name of Jesus.
