Exodus 24
Updated: Nov 5
Father God, we welcome Your presence into our lives and spaces In the Name of Jesus. Speak to us LORD as we read and share the Word. We ask that You give us understanding and revelation In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
Exodus 24 begins with the LORD inviting Moses, the 70 elders of Israel, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu to separate themselves to worship Him from afar. Exodus 24:10 says, "And they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity."
At the same time, Exodus 33:20 reads "But He said, "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live." This was the LORD's response when Moses requested to see His glory.
John 1:18 also tells us, "No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bossom of the Father, He has declared Him."
Based on the above Scriptures and my understanding, the 70 elders, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu did not literally see God. Rather, they were able to receive a clear understanding of God's Majestic nature with their eyes and ears when they were separated from the rest of the congregation of God's people. Sometimes to be able to get a deeper revelation of God's nature, consecration from all distractions maybe required.
At the same time, we see the LORD further separated Moses from everyone else and invited Him at the mountain top. Exodus 24:12, "Then the LORD said to Moses, "Come up to Me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets of stone, and the law and commandments which I have written, that you may teach them." During this time, God's people did not have direct access to God. Therefore, He only entrusted a particular person to fulfill the task which in this case was to teach His people the law and commandments.
Today, as new Testament believers, we all have direct access to God the Father now because of the person of the Holy Spirit who is our Counsellor, Comforter, Teacher, Helper, Advocate, to mention a few of His traits unlike in the Old Testament where only certain individuals had access to the Father.
Just like Moses was a teacher in the Old Testament, Jesus Christ was also known as a Teacher who shared about the Kingdom of God as portrayed in the gospels of Mark, Luke, Matthew and John found in the New Testament.
Before His physical departure to heaven, Jesus says to us in John 14:26, "But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative - that is, the Holy Spirit - he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything that I have told you."
As the Holy Spirit is our forever Teacher today for everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as LORD and Saviour, we need to remember to engage His ministry especially as we read the Bible. He will teach us all things like Jesus promised. In addition, this means that when you go about living your daily life, you don't need anyone to tell you the difference between right and wrong because in your born again spirit, you already know the difference between the two. However, the Holy Spirit will only come where He is invited. So remember to invite Him in all areas of your life as He desires to be your Helper.
As always, I encourage you to read the book of Exodus especially the chapters that we have been sharing for the past months. Let me know what stood out the most for you.

Invitation to salvation: If you would like to know this God who from the beginning of creation has always desired for you to experience His perfect love and redeemed you from every curse in relationship with Him through His One and Only Son Jesus Christ - I invite you to make this confession, "I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour today and forever."
Congratulations, by grace you are saved and are now a new creation in Christ Jesus. The old life has passed away and you have received the free gift of salvation into your life (2 Corinthians 5:17). To the glory of the Almighty God. Amen. Feel free to reach out to us on info@bibleversionoflife.com. We would love to hear your testimony!
