Father God, we thank you for the Word. Holy Spirit, we invite you, may You open up the eyes of our understanding as we read the Word and consecrate our hearts for Your glory in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.
Isaiah chapter 7 begins with the King Ahaz in fear of a war that was about to befall him and his kingdom as King of Judah (Isaiah 7:1). The LORD then sends the prophet Isaiah to speak to King Ahaz and re assure him that his enemies would not prevail against him. In fact, the LORD goes on to re assure Ahaz that the promise of the LORD's victory over his enemies would not be limited to this time but also for future generations. That is, that no enemy would come against Judah and prevail. We see the LORD telling the king to ask for a sign because I believe that was the LORD's certainty to prove that His Word concerning the Judah would not fail. However, king Ahaz in wisdom responds, "...I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" (Isaiah 7:12 NKJV)
Ahaz in Isaiah 7:14 NKJV speaks the LORD's prophecy spoken over the house of Judah to it's people, that is, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel." This shows us the LORD's mercy that when He was speaking of protecting king Ahaz from his enemies, the LORD was offering a permanent solution that would impact Judah and future generations as well. This permanent solution was Jesus. Often times when faced with an issue, we are looking for solutions. It's amazing that when God offers a solution, He just doesn't want to provide a temporary fix to that situation but He also desires to offer a permanent solution. The permanent solution to every problem we encounter in this life is a person and His name is Jesus. Every other solution offered if it is outside the wisdom of God in Christ is a temporary fix.
This same Jesus never changes and He is known as the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus Christ is also known as the Lion of the tribe of Judah that is forever seated on the throne of the house of David (Revelation 5:5) that has defeated all His enemies and every power of darkness as promised to Ahaz centuries ago. In case you're wondering, the reason God's attributes are emphasized as never changing is because He wants His people to be comforted and encouraged that if He conquered and defeated His people's enemies in the past, He has also defeated all your enemies today.
We see the fulfilment of the above prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 in the gospels. Matthew 1:23 NKJV says, "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated "God with us." It's amazing that the name the LORD chose to reveal to king Ahaz and His people was Immanuel which was a reminder that God was with them in their trouble signifying their deliverance and salvation.
In yesterday's post, we saw that people, kings and prophets in previous times desired to see the things that we currently see and hear the things that we hear now (Matthew 13:16-17). They only heard of a Saviour who would come and save the world. We are blessed to be here for such a time as this to be able to experience the privilege of calling on the name of the LORD and being saved from all of our troubles because we have put our faith and trust in Immanuel - "God with us".
Invitation to salvation: If you would like to get to know this ever faithful God, who wants you to be in personal relationship with Him through His Son, Immanuel - giving us the power and wisdom required for every decision and situation, I invite you to make this confession:
Please speak the words below:
"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever." AMEN.
Congratulations, by grace you are saved and are now a new creation in Christ Jesus. The old life has passed away and you have received the free gift of salvation into your life (2 Corinthians 5:17) where you get to freely access everything I've shared in this post. To the glory of the Almighty God. Amen.
PS: In case you have not already, I encourage you to read Isaiah chapter 7.
Please find a church or in case you already have one, become a member and get water baptized! God bless you!
I'll end with this Word found in Hebrews 4:15-16 (NKJV)
"For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
AMEN, thank you LORD.
