The Joy of Today
Updated: Feb 16, 2022
Psalm 118: 24 says, "This is the day that the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it."
Sometimes, our current circumstances may not be a good representation of our future hopes and dreams causing anxious thoughts about tomorrow which robs us of today's joy. Ultimately, anxiety about tomorrow leads to a life of underperformance.
In Matthew 6:34 Jesus encourages us to focus on today - "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own self."
Another Scripture that comes to my mind is 2 Corinthians 6:2 where it states "...today is the day of salvation." Another version says "...behold now is the favourable time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
Often times when we make promises to each other as individuals, it's for a future execution date which may or may not be fulfilled depending on the circumstances.
However, with God, His love and promises for us are readily available now. Most importantly, we can count on God to be trustworthy because He is not man that He changes His mind .
Based on the above Scriptures, I would sum up the joy of today as follows;
God's best for us is today. This is reflected in His love expressed through salvation that is readily available to each and everyone of us now
There is joy in the salvation of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ
This joy is reflected best when we take life a day at a time and consistently remind ourselves that God is in control. He does not expect us to figure out the future or worry about it because He already has planned well for us if we choose to trust Him
Worrying about tomorrow robs us of our peace and maximizing today to its full potential.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we choose to focus on today and cast our worries and anxious thoughts to you. Renew our minds and teach us to trust You as we bask in your presence and joy today. Prepare the way for us and remove all hindrances that may stand in the way of the goodness you have prepared for us today. Give us strength to utilize today to the fullest according to Your plans and purposes for our lives. We receive Your favour and every good and perfect gift You have planned for us today In the Name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
Wishing you a blessed and joyful today. May we rejoice and be glad in it.
Invitation to salvation: Finally, in case you have not already, I invite you to confess with your heart and mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins and today I choose Him as my Lord and Saviour.
Congratulations, by grace you have been saved and are now a new creation, the old life has passed away. Glory to God.
