Born in a manger

Father God, we thank you for Your Word that is life and truth. Right now as we get prepared to remember and celebrate the life of Jesus while He was here on earth, His death, burial and resurrection. We say thank you that in Your love, You gave us your best, the One you love. We could have been sacrificing animals but no, You gave us a complete and perfect sacrifice in Your Beloved Son and now no human or earthly sacrifice can compete with what Jesus Christ has completed for us as children of God so we say thank you and may Your name forever be exalted in all the ends of the earth in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Luke 2:7 (NKJV)

"And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."

The Son of God, the One sent by God to deliver humanity was born in a manger. When the angel of the LORD announced to the shepherds about Jesus' birth, Luke 2:11-12 NKJV says, "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

The Oxford meaning of the Word manger is a long open box or trough for horses or cattle to eat from. Nevertheless, it was wonderful in God's eyes for His beloved Son was born in the right family, at the right time and in the right place.

When I think of the Son of God born in a manger, there is a simplicity in God that reveals His glory. Jesus Christ was born and safely wrapped in an animal's feeding trough not some cute baby cot. Joseph and Mary were from a humble background and from Nazareth, a town people during their time despised (John 1:46) yet they were the perfect family in God's eyes to raise the King and Saviour of the world. It appears that God is in the business of doing profound things with what appears simple to our human understanding. Maybe there is a job you have been offered but when you consider the salary, you probably think that's not the job yet that simple salary in an ordinary place could be where God has appointed your blessing.

Jesus Christ built His early church with men some of whom were originally fishermen by occupation with no formal training at all but the grace of God qualified them as fishers of men and supplied them with eloquence of speech concerning the gospel. The simple and yet profound ways of God. I personally find this is a great mystery that the gospel of Christ is so simple it is deep.

Take for a instance; a bra. It is such a simple accessory that we women wear and yet it is profund in function. Now I'm in a way comparing the gospel of Jesus Christ to a bra, I don't know the history of a bra but stay with me to see a principle. I'm yet to find someone who did not sleep all night because they stayed up late thinking about their lack of a bra. Why? - because you always have it. And if you do not have it, one way or another, you will almost effortlessly get it because it is a necessity that goes without saying. And if you do not get it, it is most likely because you have chosen you do not need it. Not because it was not available.

Friend, the simplicity that is found in the gospel of the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Invitation to salvation: Today, God's free gift of salvation is extended to you, where it is not something you have to earn because it has already been given to you. But you have to receive it and if this sounds like you; believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to die for your sin and say these words:

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever. Thank you Father that because the Son has made me free, I am now free indeed." AMEN.
