Choose trust

Updated: Aug 28, 2022

Today's post is about the choice to trust in the Almighty God. I believe faith and trust are the invisible forces that work together to manifest the power of God on the earth.

The lead Scripture is from Psalm 91:2 AMP

I will say of the LORD, "He is my refugee and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!"

In the New Testament, Jesus healed a woman who had a blood flow for twelve years (Matthew 9:20). This story is touching because this woman trusted that she would receive her healing from Jesus simply by touching His garment while on His way to perform another miracle. That is, For she said to herself, "If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well" (Matthew 9:21) and indeed the power of God healed her.

Sometimes, when we contemplate trust, we maybe tempted to view it as this grand thing beyond our human comprehension. However, Paul cautions believers in 2 Corinthians 11:3 and he says, "But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

The woman with the blood flow condition did not have to perform, contemplate a "three step process to receive healing" or host a big dinner for Jesus to come heal her. She simply believed that if she could touch Jesus' garment in the middle of a busy crowd, she would be made well and she became well. This story portrays the hope that comes with confidently trusting in the LORD as a refuge and fortress as He shall never disappoint us. In Matthew 18:3, Jesus speaks of childlike faith and this sick lady's invisible faith eventually manifested as her miraculous healing.

At the same time, Scripture tell us about the integrity and unconditional love of God. This evidence of God's character is found in 2 Timothy 2:13 where the Word reminds us that "If we are faithless, He remains faithful; For He cannot deny Himself."

Let's pray. Heavenly Father, our refugee and fortress, we thank you for Your goodness and mercy that never changes. When challenging obstacles come towards us, may Your love prevail and give us the wisdom and strength to choose trust. We thank you for Your saving power that still reigns in Your Son Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever In Jesus Name.
