Genesis 27 (1)

Updated: Oct 15

Father God, we thank you for the day that You have made. We shall be glad and rejoice in it. We invite you Holy Spirit to be able to open the eyes of our understanding and to receive the truth of Your Word today in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Today's Word is coming from Genesis chapter 27 and it starts off with Isaac, who was now blind asking his son Esau, to go and bring him his favorite game, prepare it as a meal so that he would give him a blessing (Genesis 27:1-4). However, Rebekah his wife heard this and immediately told Jacob to go out and get some goats to prepare as food for Isaac (Genesis 27:8-9).

She also told Jacob to disguise himself as Esau so that he could obtain Esau's blessing. At first, Jacob was hesitant because he did not want to get a curse from his father disguising himself as Esau. Besides, Jacob was smooth haired while Esau was a hairy person (Genesis 27:11). However, his mother was not taking no for an answer so she made Isaac's favorite dish the way he loved it (Genesis 27:14). She also made Jacob wear Esau's clothes (Genesis 27:15) and put kids goat skin on Jacob's hands and neck (Genesis 27:16).

If you recall, when Rebekah was pregnant with these children in her womb, the LORD revealed to her that the younger one would serve the older one (Genesis 25:23). Clearly, she kept this promise in her heart and was waiting upon its fulfilment.

Without a shadow of doubt in her mind, Rebekah clearly understood that the fulfillment of God's prophecy was upon her. That is, Esau prophetically being a servant to Jacob so she used this moment wisely and acted with haste.

Once again, Rebekah was willing and obedient to God's instruction as she continually yielded to the will of the LORD in all her ways. Her obedience and willingness to God's instruction also demonstrates Rebekah's holy fear towards God. As a result, she partnered with the LORD to bring His will to pass here on earth! Amen.

In the new Testament, is a story of Mary, the mother of Jesus who was also obedient and willing to the ways of God. Mary kept the things that the LORD God revealed to her about the person of Jesus Christ in her heart. Luke 2:19 NKJV says, "But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart." We can see just like Mary, Rebekah also pondered on the promise God gave her concerning her sons.

In the gospel of John, the first miracle that Jesus performed at a wedding in Cana that is, turning water into wine, was incited by Mary towards Jesus. She understood and believed that Jesus' ministry was ready for His manifestation to the people (John 2:1-3). At first, Jesus brushed off Mary's prompting by saying, "...My hour has not yet come." (John 2:4). Nevertheless, Mary insisted and informed the servants around Him to do as He instructed them (John 2:5-8).

Just like Mary knew that Jesus was publicly ready to step out into the fulfilment of the prophecies that were spoken about Him, Rebekah also looked out for God's purposes and will by ensuring at all costs that Jacob would inherit the father's blessings as the LORD had revealed to her before the children were born. AMEN.

TO BE CONTINUED...

I'll end with this Word found in Luke 1:45 (NKJV)

"Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord."

AMEN. THANK YOU LORD
