Genesis 27 (2)

Updated: Oct 15

Abba Father, the One who loves and will always love us with an everlasting love. Thank you for today and for Your Word, may You give us understanding and wisdom as we read and share the Word today. Father God, may we both be hearers and doers of the Word in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.

Today's lead Word is from Genesis 27:27-29 (NKJV)

"27.And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said: "Surely, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed.

28.Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine.

29.Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be those who bless you."

Preceding these verses is Jacob disguising himself as Esau while presenting the food that his mother cooked. Isaac, his father suspected that there was a likelihood that this was not Esau. However, Isaac chose to rely on his physical senses. That is, when Isaac felt Jacob's hands, they felt hairy like Esau's (Genesis 27:23) and the scent of his clothes was like Esau's, which made him conclude that he was blessing Esau instead of Jacob. It is important to remember that Isaac at this time had started growing blind and unknown to him, he blessed Jacob (Genesis 27:27). This 'mishap' (according to the natural eye) was aligned to God's plan as Romans 9:11-12 NKJV tells us, "for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of him who calls), it was said to her, "the older shall serve the younger."

Eventually, Esau returned home only to find the father's blessing already taken by his younger brother. He was disappointed to the point of grief and he asked his father, "...Have you not reserved a blessing for me?" (Genesis 27:36). Unfortunately, Isaac could not revoke the blessing he had given to Jacob.

Nevertheless, as any loving father would do (Genesis 27:39-40), Isaac blessed Esau but he still made it clear that Jacob was to be Esau's master (Genesis 27:37). Consequently, Esau became greatly angry and we see him plotting to kill his brother, Jacob.

Thankfully, Rebekah their mother, hears of Esau's plan and informs Jacob to depart to his uncle's house, Laban. (Genesis 27:44). In the meantime, Rebekah in her wisdom shares with her husband that she would prefer if Jacob would not marry the daughters of the land that they lived in lest they become a burden to her (Genesis 27:46). The chapter ends with Isaac in agreement with his wife.

Over in the new Testament, God's blessings are for all His children who are in Christ Jesus. When you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you receive a new identity which comes with an inheritance of blessings. Ephesians 1:3 reminds us og our inheritance, that blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Friend, we have God who has already given us every spiritual blessings (not some but all) in Christ Jesus.

Thankfully, as new Testament believers, we are able to see that God's blessings are not constrained by the absence or presence of a parental blessing because there is hope and redemption in God as a loving Father. God's blessings are yours because you are children of God in Christ Jesus and He is your loving Father.

I'll end with this Word found in Romans 8:14-17 (NKJV)

"14.For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

15.For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

16.The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

17.and if children, then heirs - heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified."

AMEN. THANK YOU LORD.

Invitation to salvation: In the same way, God works in His children by giving them the will and desire to receive and walk in obedience to His Son Christ Jesus who washes away all their sins and gives them a brand new life where you will live and abide eternally in God's presence while experiencing all the blessings He has for them.

If you would like to become a child of God as well; I invite you to make this confession:

"I believe with my heart and confess with my mouth that; Jesus Christ, the Son of God came in a human body to die for my sins so that I could have a new life where I am dead to sin and alive to God. I repent of my past sins and enter the Kingdom of light where I choose relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and with God as my loving Father today and forever." AMEN.

Congratulations, by grace you are saved and are now a new creation in Christ Jesus. The old life has passed away and you have received the free gift of salvation into your life (2 Corinthians 5:17) where you get to freely access everything I've shared in this post. To the glory of the Almighty God. Amen.
