Father, thank you for this far that You have carried each and every son and daughter. We continue to commit the rest of the year and all that concerns our lives into Your able hands. May continue to bless, to lead, to protect and to direct the steps of your sons and daughters in all they do in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.
Chapter 14 starts off with different kings that prepared and went out for battle against each other in the valley of Siddim (Genesis 14:3 & Genesis 14:8-10 NKJV). During these war conquests, we see that Sodom and Gomorrah was stripped of its goods and possessions which also included the capture of Lot, Abram's nephew (Genesis 14:11-12 NKJV). When Abram heard of Lot's capture, he prepared for battle as well. Genesis 13:14 tells us, "...he armed three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan." Clearly, Abram was no ordinary person. His trained servants were able to recover the good and also rescue Lot from captivity (Genesis 14:16 NKJV).
This chapter is also highlights the first time we see Melchizedek, a priest of the Most High God, who bestowed a blessing on Abram. This is the first time we also see tithing used in the Bible as Abram gave him a tithe of all that he had after he had received the blessing. In Genesis 14:19-20 (NKJV), we see Melchizedek's blessing to him Abram and he said,
"Blessed be Abram of God Most high, Possessor of heaven and earth;
And blessed be God Most high, who has delivered your enemies in your hand."
In this chapter, we see the king of Sodom asking Abram for the people in exchange for the goods to which Abram declined to this request. In Genesis 14:22-23 (NKJV); "But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich'. I believe Abram declined to this request because his heart posture did not want God's glory and blessings upon his life to be shared with another.
As shared yesterday, the blessings given to Abram also belong to you, keeping in mind that we are also under a greater covenant, which is the new covenant of Jesus Christ that gives God's children even greater blessings as highlighted in Ephesians 1:3.
In addition to Melchizedek's priesthood, Jesus Christ is also known as the everlasting High Priest who is gives eternal life to all who come to him.
Hebrews 7:15-16 NKJV reiterates this as well;
"15.And it is yet far more evident if, in the likeness of Melchizedek, there arises another priest
16.who has come, not according to the law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an endless life." - AMEN.
As always, I encourage you to check out this chapter and let me know your thoughts in the comments! - Be blessed.
