Father, thank you that this is the day that You have made and we shall be glad and rejoice in it. We ask Holy Spirit that You lead us into all truth as we read and meditate on Your Word today in the name of Jesus, Amen. Thank you LORD.
Today's Word is from Genesis chapter 21 and in this chapter, Sarah gives birth to Isaac, the child of God's promise to her and Abraham. When we read the story of Abraham and Sarah, one may be tempted to think that there was probably some delay on the fulfillment of this promise because Abraham had Isaac at hundred years old (Genesis 21:5). However, Genesis 21:2 tells us that Isaac's birth happened at God's appointed time. It reads, "For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him."
After eight days, Abraham then proceeds to circumcise his child as God had previously instructed him concerning every male in his household (Genesis 21:4). When Isaac grew and was weaned, "Abraham made a great feast on the same day that Isaac was weaned." (Genesis 21:8).
In the midst of this celebration, Sarah happened to witness Ishmael, Hagar's son, scoffing at Isaac (Genesis 21:9). Sarah then told Abraham to "Cast out this bondwoman and her son; for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, namely Isaac." (Genesis 21:10). Abraham was originally hesitant to listen to his wife's instruction because of his love for Ishmael.
However, God appeared to Abraham and re affirmed Sarah's instructions to him. God said to Abraham, "whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called." (Genesis 21:12). Despite Ishmael's birth that was not aligned according to God's plan and promise for Abraham and Sarah, God still made a promise to Abraham that He would take care of Ishmael regardless of his physical separation from Abraham (Genesis 21:13). Indeed Ishmael grew up to become great as God blessed him based on His covenant relationship with Abraham.
Isaac on the other hand, is blessed and a part of the genealogy of Jesus Christ (Matthew 1), the Son of God who is the "Seed" that God referred to in which the entire world would be blessed. This is because the Christ was sent by God, the Father to take away the sins of the world so that all who believe in Him will receive eternal life (John 3:16) and live an abundant life (John 10:10).
PS: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU READ CHAPTER 22 ON YOUR OWN AND LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS WHAT SPEAKS TO YOU THE MOST!
I'll end with this Word found in 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 (NKJV)
"17.Therefore "Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.
18."I will be a Father to you and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty."
AMEN. THANK YOU LORD.
